Why do I need to provide documentation to list a rental?
To keep our Rentals platform safe, we may request documentation as additional verification to confirm a listing is accurate and authentic. For policy details, see the Listings Quality Policy (Sections 1.2 and 4.4):
https://www.zillow.com/rentals-network/listings-quality-policy/
We understand this can be inconvenient, and appreciate your help in maintaining the integrity of the platform.
How do I know if additional verification is required for my listing?
- Your listing is removed and cannot be re-published until verification is complete.
- Your Zillow Rental Manager access may be disabled.
- You’ll receive an email with the subject: “Additional verification needed for your Zillow Account.” This email includes a one-time link to our secure upload portal.
- Can’t find the email? Check spam/junk and any other email addresses you might have used for your listings.
- If the email link expired, you can also access the upload portal directly from Zillow Rental Manager on the web only (verification is not currently available in the mobile app).
Does Zillow use third parties to verify my listing?
Yes. Our secure upload portal is provided by Persona, a trusted verification vendor. Persona is prohibited from processing or sharing your information for any purpose other than verifying your documents on Zillow’s behalf. For more, see Persona’s Privacy Policy.
How do I know if a verification request I received is legitimate?
- Never verify your listing or account from phone calls, text/SMS, or listing messages. Zillow does not conduct listing/document verification through these channels.
- Zillow will never ask you to pay to verify a listing. There is no verification fee. We will not request payment by phone, text/SMS, email, or listing messages—including gift cards, wire transfers, Zelle/Venmo/Cash App, PayPal, or cryptocurrency. If you receive a payment request, it is not from Zillow.
- When in doubt, don’t click email links. Go to Zillow Rental Manager on the web and use the in-product banner or account-disabled alert to open the verification portal from your dashboard.
- Domains to expect: Verification happens on Zillow and our trusted provider, Persona. You may see pages on zillow.com or withpersona.com. Attackers use look-alikes (e.g., extra words, misspellings). If you’re unsure, access the portal directly from Zillow Rental Manager instead of any email link.
