Why do some landlords and property managers not accept my Zillow application?
While we encourage landlords and property managers to accept Zillow applications, they are entitled to use any application service they want.
Generally, if you see an “Apply now” button or any other verbiage indicating that a property accepts Zillow applications, you should be able to apply without any additional fees. If a property shows these options and still requires you to pay a separate fee and/or undergo an additional application process, please let us know at rentalapplications@zillow.com.
If you see ‘Request to apply’ that means the rental property does not accept Zillow Applications.
Some partners on Zillow, such as apartment communities or other multi-family rental properties, are not eligible to use Zillow applications. Please reach out to these properties using the contact form or phone number on their listing to understand their particular application process.

What does it mean to have a portable, or “reusable” application?
You can share your application, including your screening. This includes properties you might find that aren’t yet listed on Zillow. This helps you cut down on excessive forms and fees while you’re searching for a new home.
For $35 you’ll get:
- Experian credit report
- CIC background check
- Ability to reuse for 30 days with properties you find on or off Zillow
We suggest checking with the rental manager to make sure they accept Zillow applications. They may accept the credit and background reports, and still require you to complete their preferred application.
How do I apply for a listing? Can I get a link to the application?
There are three ways to submit an application to a participating property
1. Apply now: Some listings allow applicants to apply without an invitation. If you see an “Apply now” button on a Zillow listing, you can submit your application immediately.
2. Some landlords like to send an application to applicants they’d like to consider for their property. If you're already in contact with a landlord regarding their listing, they can send you an application invitation. They have two options for inviting you to apply to the property, they can either send you a direct link to their application or can invite you to apply if they have your name and email address.
3. If you find a property in a different manner than a Zillow listing, you can still reuse your application and screening reports. As long as you have the address of the property and the rental manager’s email address, you can send them a copy of your application. You can do this from your applications dashboard. Landlords may accept the credit and background reports, and still require you to complete their preferred application.
